Dr. James K. Elsey
An Atlanta native, Dr. Elsey received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Georgia and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. His internship and General Surgery residency as well as his Vascular Surgery fellowship were done at Emory University. Dr. Elsey is Board Certified in both General and Vascular Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Throughout his surgical career, Dr. Elsey has been an active member of the American College of Surgeons on state and national levels, serving as President of the Georgia Chapter, Governor of the ACS and currently serves on the Board of Regents. Dr. Elsey is a member of the Southern Surgical Association, Georgia Surgical Society, Southern Association for Vascular Surgery, International Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, International Society of Endovascular Surgery and the American Medical Association. As a Major in the Army National Guard, Dr. Elsey served as Chief of Surgery for a MASH unit.
Dr. Elsey has had an active General and Vascular Surgery practice since 1986, encompassing the entire spectrum of General, Vascular and Endovascular surgery. He has a large venous practice providing the full complement of venous surgery from sclerotherapy to endovenous ablation. In addition, Dr. Elsey has an interest in Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) and has been a regional physician instructor teaching other physicians the technique, as well as the Co-Chair and Moderator for SILS courses during the annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons. He has been recently published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons on the topic of SILS.
In his free time, Dr. Elsey enjoys travel and spending time with his family and two Labrador Retrievers.
